To build a powerful Information System, there must be
organized CBOs
(Community-
Based Organizations) since they are effective platforms for
spreading
information and taking development initiatives. This is only possible
when they are
well organized.
Toward this end a detailed study was undertaken of all
the CBOs individually,
and regular facilitation provided for better organization. Regular meetings
were
conducted with well-defined agendas, stressing the importance of regular
meetings,
repayment of loans, involvement in public activities, and bookkeeping.
This resulted
in sixteen groups being regularized, of which, nine groups were selected
for bank
loans by the Rural Bank of Padara in recognition of their improved functioning.
CTK
is the only village in the whole Mandal to have nine groups selected
all at the same
time. The VO (village organization consisting of women-only groups) now
functions
very efficiently and it has been selected as one of the five best VOs
in the Mandal.
A grant of Rs. 20 lakhs has been sanctioned for MCP (micro credit plan)
to this VO.
In addition to the VO, one Federation has been formed consisting
of representatives
from all the CBOs. Now all the information, selections, decisions and
planning are
being brought to the villagers through this Federation. |
