While conducting the family survey in the village we
became aware of the huge livestock population in the village, and also
learnt of the deaths of animals due to the lack of vaccinations. When
this was discussed with the people it transpired that they depended solely
on the Department of Animal Husbandry for vaccinations as they believed
them to be too expensive to do on their own. A detailed study about animal
diseases, their seasonal occurrence, and vaccination cycles was undertaken
with the help of Mr Ramalingam, the village Gopalmitra. We visited the
Department to discuss the possibility of getting the vaccines, but were
told that there is an acute shortage of vaccines and that the vaccines
supplied would not be sufficient for the Mandal’s large livestock
population. |
