The trained facilitators conducted a professional survey of tanks in the Nagarkurnool division of the Mahbubnagar district, and for the entire district of Anantapur in May and June 2005. This survey was designed by CADA of the Irrigation Department, prior to launching a massive tank rehabilitation programme.

The initial English format was translated into Telugu. A Telugu database was developed so that the facilitators could enter their data with ease. This database is compatible with the English database developed by the Irrigation Department and the data entered by the facilitators was communicated to the Department to be integrated in their state database. This exercise proved that villagers, if trained properly, and if the system is in their mother tongue, can be efficient surveyors and computer operators.
